How to make Homemade Dehydrated Lamb Treats? Pet Treat Recipe.

Hey, fellow pet lovers!

Today’s post is a short and simple homemade treat recipe that your pooches are going to love!!

We’re going to be making some dehydrated lamb treats, thankfully Nia can eat lamb so both my girls can enjoy these tasty treats. They are so simple to make and you can choose to use a variety of cuts but we use tongue as it is fairly cheap and the girls love it.

Let’s jump straight in and learn how to make your furry friend their very own homemade lamb treats!

What you will need?

• A chopping board.
• A sharp knife.
• Gloves if you mind getting your hands dirty.
• Scales (Non-essential).
• A dehydrator.
• A reusable tub or jar to place the finished treats in.
• A good amount of Lamb as it will decrease to about 1/3rd of its original weight.

Step One, Sort out your Dehydrator and Trays

The first thing to do is to get your dehydrator and trays already so that when you finish cutting up your lamb into even strips you can easily place them on your trays without having to wash your hands in between.

Step Two, Prepare your Lamb

Now that you have sorted your dehydrator and trays out, the next thing to do is to cut your lamb as evenly as possible. The lamb tongues are pretty small so cutting them even was hard but I think they turned out ok and the girls haven’t complained yet!! However, make sure you sharpen your knife beforehand so you can easily cut your lamb into even slices.

Step Three, Stick your Lamb on your Trays

Now that you have prepared your lamb it is time to place all your slices onto your dehydrator trays. What I love about these treats is how simple they are to make, five easy steps and you have your very own homemade tasty treats that you know your pooch is going to love.

Step Four, Transport Lamb to the Dehydrator

The next step is to transport your lamb to your dehydrator so you can start the cooking process. Place all your sliced lamb into the dehydrator on its highest setting. We have an Excalibur nine-tray dehydrator and it has a set timer on so we can choose to leave it on for 24 hours or longer.

However, if you don’t have a timer then just keep checking on it but it will take at least 16 hours if not 24 depending on how thick your slices are. I take my lamb off the non-stick Excalibur paper halfway through the cooking process to ensure all moisture has been removed.

Step Five, Place your finished treats in an airtight container

Now that you have your finished treats place them into an airtight container and stick them in the fridge so that whenever you want to quickly grab one you can. Lily and Nia both love lamb, it is one of their favourite meats including Pheasant for Nia and Chicken and Beef for Lily.

These treats are perfect for daily training, a quick reward or a just a little treat every now and then. Like I have mentioned in my previous treat posts you can also use these treats as a little hack if your pooch decides to turn their nose up at their food, like my girl Lily sometimes does. Just grate a little bit in, then mix it all together and hopefully, they will eat everything no problem.

These treats smelt that good that Pooss even came to inspect and she is never bothered about any treats I make!!
