My name is Katie, I’m twenty-one years old and I am currently trying to figure out what to do with my life. So in 2015, I was studying for a Real Estate BSc honours degree and just wasn’t feeling like it was what I wanted to do as a future career.
So I thought why not take a year out, travel, have a think?
Little did I know that this year out would result in me not going to back to my studies and feeling even more confused than before. It’s a bit hard to explain everything in one small post but if you stick around you will soon find out more about my life, what got me here and where I hope to be in the future.
In brief, this blog is about many things, one a personal journey trying to find out what path I should take in relation to career, starting a blog and trying to become a first-time successful entrepreneur.
Two, the more important part!
I am currently on a mission to try to improve the lives of many of our furry friends around the world. One of the main reasons behind this blog stems from one very overlooked issue, some would say, maybe unknown.
However, with this blog, I want to talk, discuss and spread the word about this well-hidden secret. The issue I am talking about is how unethical are the majority of the products within pet food and treat industries? I’m sure a lot of people are thinking what is she on about?
These industries are great!
They offer us so much choice and my beloved pet doesn’t seem to turn their nose up when it’s dinner time or they hear me opening the treat bag.
So where’s the problem?
Well, by following this blog you will soon discover, that what you think is a good food choice or a rewarding treat can be quite the opposite and in the long run even have a detrimental effect on our pets!
I hope that by spreading the word about natural feeding methods such as a Prey Model Raw (PMR)/Whole prey or BARF (Biologically Appropriate Raw Feeding or Bones and Raw Food) diets, that pet owners will become more informed on the best feeding methods for our family pets.
Unfortunately, a variety of mass-produced pet products on the market today contain a lot of grains, cereals, and kinds of wheat which our feline and canine friends have not evolved to eat. They also use poor protein sources such as soy and corn alongside a myriad of harmful chemicals, preservatives and palatability enhancers.
Which has all resulted in an increase in pet obesity and in turn seen a rise in various health issues such as
-
Digestive problems (Flatulence, Food sensitivities, Colitis, and Diarrhoea).
-
Skin Conditions (Itchy skin, Yeast infections, and Alopecia).
-
Lastly, various cancers and other life threating conditions.
These are just a few of the countless effects of feeding our pets an overly processed diet that is high in carbohydrates and contains undesirable substances, which results in negative gene expression, chronic inflammation, and ultimately leads to unhealthy pets.
I hope that by sharing information about raw feeding and the benefits it brings to our pets lives and their overall health, that pet owners will consider the switch from an overly processed commercial diet to a raw one.
I have two perfect pooches and one adorable cat, who I just love so much!! And I’m sure you all feel the same way about your pets and they are part of the family just as much as we all are and therefore they should receive the best possible care.
I strongly believe that a species appropriate diet is the best approach to ensuring that our pets live the happiest and healthiest lives possible.
That’s why all my girls are fed a diet that consists of:
-
Raw muscle meat.
-
Raw Edible Meaty Bones.
-
Raw Organ Meat.
-
And the occasional bit of fruit, veg and goats/sheep’s dairy products such as Kefia.
Nia my amazing Staffordshire bull terrier is the sweetest dog you will ever meet and Lily my adorable but always full of beans Border Terrier is such a bold character! My cat who is called Pooss (I know a very creative name) is such a cutie and honesty rules the house.
They are also a massive reason behind epoch.pet and I want to share with you their little lives, what they get up to and lots more. To learn a little bit more about them now, head over to the Meet My Girls page.
I also do a variety of pet products reviews on the blog such as
-
Pet Toys.
-
Pet Treats.
-
Raw Feeding Products and Suppliers.
-
And various other pet products that I can get my hands on.
We should all commit ourselves to the highest level of care we are able to provide for our companion animals, as they look to us for all of their needs and their health and wellbeing is in our hands. Being fit and healthy improves the quality of your experience of life, and the same can be said for our four-legged companions.
epoch.pet’s purpose is to enrich this experience and to create an even stronger bond between you and your pet by optimising the time you spend together through play, fitness and nutrition, all whilst pushing the boundaries of the standard of care.
I want to create a blog where people feel like they are in a community that all shares one thing, never-ending love for our four-legged companions. Whether you own a cat or a dog or both like myself, you’re welcome to be a part of epoch.pet.
