My Favourite Thing About Having Dogs.

Hey, fellow pet lovers!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful start to the week, my week is a fairly busy one as I’m attending Newcastle Startup Week which is a five day and night business event close to my hometown that I’ve been looking forward to for quite some time now. However, today’s post is a nice and simple one in which I’m going to tell you what my favourite thing is about having canine companions in my life.

Let’s jump straight into today’s post!

The Best Thing About Having Dogs

If you’ve read last weeks post which was all about National Pet Month then you will already know some of the many benefits that having a companion animal in your life can provide. However, in today’s post, I want to share with you what my favourite benefit of having Nia and little Lily in my life is.

I’m a serious dog lover, I always have been and always will be, but what is the best thing about having a four-legged friend?

If your a dog owner already, then you will know that there are countless benefits of doing so that merely choosing one can seem quite tricky. This is how I felt when I first had the thought of writing today’s post, how am I going to decide what my favourite thing about having dogs is? As there are countless benefits to choose from like the unconditional love we receive each day, the cosy morning cuddles, the benefit of having responsibility for another living creature and the list goes on and on.

However, one thing comes to mind, and it is essential for living a good life, as some of you may already know this Septemeber I’ll be starting a combined honour degree in business and philosophy which I’m looking forward to staring! Which has meant that the last month I’ve been delving deeper into philosophy, specifically Stoicism and all my reading and learning has allowed me to realise what the best thing about having my girls Nia and Lily in my life is? There are many things that I love and appreciate about having my girls, but what’s my favourite thing?

I was playing with little Lily the other day and realised this, I love many things about my girls but their ability to drag me into the present moment has to be the biggest benefit of all. If you’re a dog owner then you will know exactly what I’m talking about, have you ever randomly started playing with your pet and found yourself free from worries or pointless cares for a brief moment in time?

If so this is because you were living in the present, fully devoted to the task at hand and not allowing any external worries, cares or concerns to get in the way. I’m incredibly envious of our dog’s ability to live fully in the present moment, no matter what they are doing they seem to exist in the present, whereas us humans, unfortunately, normally tend to exist as far from this place of bliss as possible.

It may be the fact that we have a million and one tasks to complete each day and a smartphone ready to distract us at every waking moment, or simply that you struggle to be fully present due to internal troubles. Whatever the cause, having a canine companion can help you to live fully in the present moment and allow you to enjoy life to the max. Whether that is by getting outside in nature each day or just devoting a few minutes to playful fun, our pets can help us to live fully in the present moment which is pure bliss and is something I certainly strive to have more of in my life.

I love this quote and I’m sure we can all agree that the moments of bliss due to being fully present is something we all hope to cultivate more of and one way to do that is to get a canine companion. If you already have one then great, because your most likely already experiencing this awesome benefit of doing so but if not then there are countless poor pets searching for their forever loving home in shelters and kennels all around the world.
