epoch.pet’s 100th Post and Top Ten Recap!

Hey, fellow pet lovers!

Appolgies for missing last Saturday’s post, last week was busy but productive and I’ve finally finished my student finance application which I’m super happy about! I’m really looking forward to sharing today’s post with you all because it marks our 100 posts on epoch.pet. It is so great to see how diverse our content range has become, we have so many different topics that we’ve talked about on the blog and many more great posts heading your way. However, today I want to briefly recap on our top ten blog posts so far.

Let’s jump straight into today’s post to learn more!

epoch.pet’s 100th Post and Top Ten Recap

We’ve reached 100 posts already and I’m amazed at how diverse our post topics have been, we’ve talked a lot about raw feeding and species appropriate diets, a little about the canine estrus cycle and a lot about my three gorgeous girls Nia, Lily and the Pooss.

When I first went live with epoch.pet I intended to mainly stick to raw feeding and nutritional posts but I’ve pivoted many times along the way and found myself writing about topics I never thought I would. I’ve really enjoyed writing such a diverse range of content but I’ve loved writing fun and relaxed posts about my girls the most.

Below I’m going to list our top ten liked posts on WordPress so far, but remember there are many other great posts not listed, so if you’re new to epoch.pet then head over to our homepage to check some them out after today’s post. For our frequent readers that read my latest post all about why I missed two posts last month, then you will already know that after today’s post I’ll only be publishing one a week. However, I do plan on sometimes posting more than once, it all depends on the occasion and how busy I am. I promise to always get one out a week though, so you guys have to hold me accountable and remember if you ever have any post suggestions, get in touch by heading over to our contact page.

What it’s like to have a Border Terrier?

Little Lily

What it’s like to have a Border Terrier has been a favourite on the blog for quite some time now and I really loved writing this post. Border Terries are crazy dogs and they are certainly an interesting breed to own, I wrote this post for any potential BT owners out there who may be considering getting a Border Terrier but aren’t too sure what the breed is like.

I list the many great attributes of owning this loving breed but also the few downsides of having a Border Terrier. If you’re a lover of the breed and simply want to learn a little bit more about my girl Lily then you will love this post, or if you’re considering getting a BT rescue or puppy then it’s a must read to learn a little bit more about this wonderful breed.

Recap on why I started epoch.pet?

My Brand Ambassitors

Recap on why I started epoch.pet is another favourite on the blog and I love writing these more informal posts and telling you guys a bit more about my amazing girls, my blogging journey so far and why I created this pet-loving brand.

There are so many reasons but the main one that stands out from the rest is the fact that I want to help strengthen the bond between pet owner and pet by optimising the time they spend together through play, fitness and nutrition, all whilst pushing the boundaries of the standard of care. This is actually epoch.pet’s mission statement and it really excites me the possibility of positive change that a successful brand can have by creating a large audience who share the same brand values.

I’m not too interested in creating a blog that earns a lot of money because the point behind epoch.pet is to provide pet owners with free quality content about the best products on the market or nutritional information such as the best diet to feed your four-legged friend. I also want to help make a positive change towards Breed-Specific Legislation and other controversial topics that need to be talked about amongst pet owners and lovers worldwide. Lastly, I want to help the many animals in need however I can and also raise awareness about puppy mills and the Adopt Don’t Shop campaign.

We all want our canine and feline companions by our sides for as long as possible and I hope I can help make that a reality with epoch.pet!

Questions to ask yourself before getting a pet?

The next post to talk about is questions to ask yourself before getting a pet? This post is a super useful one if your not sure whether being a pet parent is right for you, I talk about the essential questions you should consider such as can I afford a pet? Do I have the time to provide my companion animal with all their needs and lastly, am I going to commit to my pet for the rest of their lives?

So many people get a pet for a loved one or a family memeber only to realise that the novelty has worn off after a few months and they are now stuck with a puppy or kitten they never wanted in the first place. Getting a pet is a serious resonsubility and it is essential that you really take the time to consider whether it is the right option for you and your family before taking the plundge.

A Brief History of the Pet Food Industry Part One, Spratt’s Patent Limited

A brief history of the pet food industry is one of our latest posts and is a series with part three heading your way next week. I really enjoyed learning about Mr James Spratt and his entrepreneurial mindset.

I’d wanted to write this post for quite some time and did originally plan to create one large post but soon realised that I would be publishing a novel so decided to split it into four sections. Part one which talks about Spratt’s Patent Ltd and their famous dog biscuits, Charle’s Cruft the founder of the worlds greatest dog show and lots more is an interesting read. If you want to learn more about our companion animals large array of food choices and how the multi-billion dollar pet food industry which we all know so well today came to be, then check out our post and part two.

The Canine Estrus Cycle

This post seemed to be a favourite amongst fellow bloggers and it is one that I decided to write when the girls were in heat to find out a little bit more about their cycle. I’m not a scientific person so struggled to get into writing this super informative post at first, but I’m really grateful that I understand my girls cycle a lot better now and can keep a close eye on them during each stage, especially during Diestrus as this is when they are most likely to go into a false pregnancy or get pyometra.

National Walk Your Dog Week, 2018

National Walk Your Dog Week was a great post to write and I really loved learning about Colleen Paige and her serious passion for our canine companions. In this post, I go into detail about the many benefits of taking your pet out on daily walks and not just for your canine companion but also yourself.

I also talk about Nia and Lily’s favourite spots to go on walks as we have plenty of lovely places to take the girls out where we live, my personal favourites being the old nearby graveyard or our beautiful coastline. If you want to learn more about National Walk Your Dog Week or my girls favourite places to go walkies, then check out this post.

How to Hand Strip a Border Terrier?

Stripped Lily

I really enjoyed writing this post and it is a common one that pet parents seem to come across on search engines. I know how stressful it can be for your Border Terrier when it comes to stripping time and the reason I decided to write this post was to make it easier for pet owners to hand strip their BT.

Little Lily hates being stripped but we try and make it as comfortable as we can for her by using handy tools that I mention in the post and tiring her out beforehand. If you have a Border Terrier and have trouble stripping them then this post is for you.

Obesity and our pets, the shocking truth!

This has been one of my favourite posts to write despite the upsetting title and if your yet to be informed on the obesity epidemic our companion animals are facing as well as their human counterparts then check out this post.

These heartbreaking statistics will shock you and it is definitely something that needs to be talked about amongst pet parents worldwide. This year I plan to do another similar post and hopefully, I will be able to say that the figures of obese pets have decreased. In this post I talk about what obesity is, some rules we can live by to ensure our pets don’t become obese and lastly, I talk about how to perform a Body Conditing Score on your pet to assess if they are obese or a healthy weight.

BARF, Biologically Approarite Diet or Bones and Raw Food

This was another favourite amongst fellow bloggers and I really enjoyed writing this post since epoch.pet was founded on informing pet owners about the best diet practices for our companion animals. If you’re interested in starting your pet on a species appropriate diet, whether that be BARF or Prey Model Raw we have all the information you need to get started.

What It’s like to have two dogs?

Nia and Lily

The last post to talk about is what it’s like to have two dogs? I loved writing this post and from personal experience think it’s a lot better having two pooches than one. We had Nia for a whole year before getting little Lily and I’m so glad we decided to get a second dog as they are the best of friends most of the time.

If you’re wondering what it is like to have two dogs or whether introducing a second canine companion into the household is a good idea, then check out this post which talks about the many benefits of doing so but also the few downsides to consider.

That’s our top ten posts since going live, there was one more favourite that I couldn’t fit in which was Durham Animal Feeds, so if you’re looking for a great raw food supplier in the UK then check out our post to learn more.

For our frequent followers, I just want to remind you guys that I’m now planning on posting once a week and I think this will be on Tuesday’s but am not certain yet, so subscribe if you haven’t already to make sure you don’t miss our weekly content.
