National Love Your Pet Day.

Hey, fellow pet lovers!

As some of you may already know last Wednesday the 20th of February was National Love Your Pet Day so today’s post is all about my three gorgeous girls Nia, Lily and the Pooss. I love them all so much and life just wouldn’t be the same without any of them, they bring me so much joy and happiness and I’m truly grateful to have such amazing companion animals in my life!!

Let’s jump straight into today’s post and learn all about National Love Your Pet Day and my three gorgeous girls!

National Love Your Pet Day is all about showing how much you love your companion animal, whether you have a dog, a cat, or one of the countless other possible pets out there it’s all about giving them as much love as possible. My girls get showered in love each and every day and I always start the morning with plenty of cuddles from little lily or Nia.

As well as giving your pet plenty of love, National Love Your Pet Day is also all about spoiling your companion animal and you can do this in a variety of ways such as taking them on a lovely long walk along the coast, go on a woodland walk or take them out to their favourite place which for Lily, is the park.

You could also get your four-legged friend some new toys or treats, or maybe a new tank if you have a reptile or pamper your pooch with a doggy Spa day, your options are limitless. One of the best things about having pets for me is receiving unconditional love, I’ve mentioned this a few times when writing posts such as 10 Benefits of having a Canine Companion. If you’re having a bad day and you come home to so much love and affection you instantly feel a lot better and forget about your troubles for a little while.

What I Love About My Girls?

I love so many things about Nia, Lily and the Pooss and they all have their own little unique personalities which really makes them stand out from each other. Below I’m going to list a few of my favourite things about my girls and this list could go on and on but I’m going to stop at three things for each of them to ensure this blog post doesn’t become a novel…

Nia

Nia Papaya ❤

Nia is the sweetest dog in the world and I cannot believe she is turning five this year, time goes by so quickly!!

  • I love how affectionate and needy Nia is.

Nia is super needy and wants cuddles 24/7 which is something I really love about her as I’m all about affection and cuddles too. If you’ve never been around a Staffordshire Bull Terrier then you may not know how needy they really are, but I think it’s safe to say they may be the neediest breed on the planet.

  • I love how not fussy Nia is with her food.

Nia has never ever been a fussy eater and I cannot recall her turning her nose up at a certain food ever and this is another thing I love about her. She is pretty much willing to give anything a go but unfortunately, with her many allergies, she has been restricted with what she can and cannot eat.

  • I love how friendly she is with other dogs.

Nia is and has always been super friendly towards other dogs whereas Lily is a bit more anxious and cannot always be trusted around new dogs at first. Nia’s calm and affectionate behaviour is something I love so much about her and I really think the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is one of the best breeds around.

Lily

Little Lily ❤

Lily is the baby of the household and I love her to bits!! She is the funniest little dog I have ever known and she has such a big character for a dog her size. She will be four this year as we got her when Nia was only one and I’ve loved watching them bond over the years!!

  • I love Lily’s morning cuddles.

Most nights I have Lily with me as Nia prefers to sleep with her dad and every morning without fail I get the sweetest cuddles from little Lily, which is a really great way to kick-start my day!!

  • I love how playful Lily is.

From the day we brought Lily home she has always been full of beans and is willing to play each and every hour of the day. I remember how difficult the first few weeks were as she just wouldn’t sleep, she used to wake me up at 5am in the morning each day without fail as all she wanted to do was play. Thankfully, she has become a lot lazier now and loves to sleep in with her mum.

  • I love how much she loves Nia!!

Besties!!

The bond between Nia and Lily is too cute, I remember when we first brought her home and how nervous I was as we really weren’t too sure how Nia was going to react, but thankfully they got on well.  They cuddle up together, play together and just enjoy each others company every day which is more than I could have ever wished for.

Pooss

My Girl Pooss ❤

Pooss is the best cat I have ever known and I love her to bits, she is super sweet but can be a bit hit or miss with Lily if she is annoying her, however, she loves her secretly!!

  • I love how sweet Pooss is to the girls.

Pooss is such a sweet cat, she loves to sit on your knee and get plenty of strokes, she also loves to laze about in the flat on her window seat or heat mat and she’s learnt to live alongside two crazy dogs which I’m incredibly proud of her for.

Pooss came from a house with no dogs prior to living with us and we really weren’t too sure how the girls, especially Lily and Pooss were going to get on. However, after a good few months the girls got used to the fact there was a cat in the house and Pooss started to become more tolerant of the girls and this is something I love about her so much!

  • I’ve loved watching Pooss become the healthy cat she is today.

When Pooss arrived at her forever home she was in a sorry state, she had very little fur, was covered in scabs and was incredibly skinny! Now she is a super healthy cat who thrives on a raw diet, is a healthy weight and has grown all of her hair back. I’m so grateful to have watched her get to where she is today and she is such a little warrior.

  • I love cuddling up with her.

Now some of you might be thinking, cuddling up with a cat?? What is she on about but you heard me right, the last few months Pooss has been coming under the covers and wanting morning cuddles with my partner and this week I managed to snuggle up with her too. It is one of the sweetest things ever and I love how affectionate she is becoming with older age.

What the Girls got up to on National Love Your Pet Day?

IMG_20190223_095232.jpg

My girls had a great National Love Your Pet Day, if it’s a special occasion we will always take the girls to the beach and have a lovely walk along the coast then walk along the Lea’s which is where the Great North Dog Walk takes place each year.

Then after a lovely fun-filled walk, we arrived home and unfortunately, for the girls they had to go in the bath to get all the sand off and get them smelling lovely and clean again. Once dry they had a tasty goats milkshake, a little nap and their tea on the night-time which was minced venison, with some fresh blueberries, Homemade Goats Kefir and some nutritional yeast sprinkled on top.

As most of you already know Pooss is a house cat but she still had a great day despite not coming out on our lovely walk. She had her favourite breakfast which is fresh wild salmon, then Nutriment’s minced beef complete for her tea and she enjoyed a fresh bag of catnip afterwards.

Having a companion animal is amazing and the girls keep me going when I’m feeling low or I’m simply having a really bad day, the love I receive from them on a daily basis and the lovely walks and cuddles we have is priceless. National Love Your Pet Day is lovely but each and every day should be a day filled with love and appreciation for your pet and I hope you realise how amazing it is to have your own special companion animal by your side.

If you don’t have pets but you’re a pet lover you can still show your love in a variety of ways by going to an animal shelter and volunteering your time, offering to take care of friends or a family members pet while they are away, or donating to your favourite animal charity. Or if you would love to be a pet owner and think you would benefit from having a canine or feline companion then why not adopt a pet today, there are countless animals in shelters waiting for their forever home and you could show them the love they so desperately need and want.
