Hey, fellow pet lovers!!
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, we certainly did and I had a much-needed two days off from work which was really lovely!
But now I’m back at it and today’s post is all about epoch.pet, my blogging journey so far and how 2018 has been for the blog. I never thought a blog would make such a difference to my life but it has been a monumental journey going live with epoch.pet and one with hopefully many more years left ahead.
Let’s jump straight in and learn all about the creation of epoch.pet, the ups and downs and review 2018!
epoch.pet, 2018 Yearly Review!
So 2019 is almost here and I’m super excited about the year ahead, I have so many things going on in my life right now and I’m really looking forward to growing epoch.pet into a strong and much-loved pet brand, that helps both pet parents and their pets in as many ways as possible.
For anyone reading this that hasn’t followed epoch.pet from the get-go then I will give you a little recap on how everything started, but for more in-depth reading check out my two previous posts The reasons behind epoch.pet and epoch.pet, Six Months On.
Back in 2015, I was studying for a Real Estate BSc Honours degree at Northumbria University with the hopes of becoming a Chartered Surveyor. However, I really wasn’t feeling like it was what I wanted to do as a future career.
So I thought why not take a year out, travel, have a think?
Little did I know that this year out would result in me not going to back to my studies and feeling even more confused than before. During my year out, I went to Australia for 3 weeks with my best friend and it was one of the most amazing adventures of my life. I gained so much confidence from pushing my self out my comfort zone and jumping into the deep end, that I came home a different person.
A few months past and I was talking to a friend about raw feeding and how there really aren’t many raw feeding friendly treats on the market and I got thinking about potentially creating a pet treat company. However, after looking deeper into it I wasn’t ready to take the jump and start my own business so opted to turn epoch.pet into the wonderful pet wellness and nutrition blog that it currently is today.
I went live with epoch.pet on the 20th of April this year and the months have gone by so fast… I remember putting out my first ever post out and how odd that felt, but thankfully now I’m super comfortable with writing blog posts and love talking out epoch.pet and the crazy journey I’ve had so far.
This year has been a massive mix of emotions for me and I’ve been through a lot but maintaining the blog while it has grown each and every month has been a much-loved challenge. Every month the number of visitors and views we are getting to epoch.pet have increased and I am so grateful to every single person who has visited our site!!
I started epoch.pet with the intention of promoting raw feeding and trying to show pet owners that there is a more natural way to feed our four-legged companions, but the blog and its content has moved on from focusing solely on raw feeding and I love the sheer variation in the posts I have written over the last eight months. Below is a list of some of my favourite posts I have written so far,
-
Can dogs eat raw meat?
-
Remembering Freya.
-
Obesity and our pets, the shocking truth!
-
The Canine Estrous Cycle.
-
Xdog Weight and Fitness Vest, product review, with 10% off code!
This list could go on and on as today’s post is number 74 which is so crazy!!
My amazing partner has also lent a helping hand with blogging duties over the last few months since my To-Do list has continued to grow and below you can find a list of some of his great posts.
-
The Benefits of Curcumin for Canines.
-
Building Muscle and Performance, Creatine for Canines.
-
Omega 3 fatty acids, the importance of fish oil for your dog.
-
PULLER Rings Interactive Dog Toy, product review.
Why I started epoch.pet?
There are so many reasons as to why I started epoch.pet and below I am going to list a few but if you want a more in-depth description of why then read my post, epoch.pet, Six Months On.
-
I love my girls and our amazing furry family!!
As I have mentioned a million times my girls are my whole world and epoch.pet is all for them. By optimizing their little lives through play, fitness and nutrition I can also help millions of other pets worldwide and that has been a goal of mine from the get-go.
-
I want to provide pet owners with quality content.
A massive aim of epoch.pet is to provide pet owners with quality content that will help them truly make a positive difference to their pets lives, whether that is through optimising their pet’s diet by switching them to a raw one such as BARF, Biologically Appropriate Raw Feeding or Bones and Raw Food or Prey Model Raw (PMR) diets.
Or simply by helping pet owners find fun and interactive toys such as the Squishy Face Flirt Pole or PULLER Rings Interactive Dog Toy. Or lastly, by helping pet owners increase their pet’s fitness by promoting innovative products such as Xdog Weight and Fitness Vest.
Everything I review on the site is here because I know it will make a positive difference to your pets lives and improve the time you spend together.

Promote raw feeding for our canine and feline friends.
#Rawfedpets
I love being a raw feeder and I’m so proud of my girls’ current condition, I have seen the difference between a raw fed pooch or pooss and a pet fed a mass-produced commercial diet and I can definitely say a raw fed pet is a healthier pet.
With epoch.pet I want to help spread the word about natural feeding methods such as Prey Model Raw or BARF diets with the hope that we can help eliminate various health conditions such as skin ailments that may be caused by a food sensitivity. Or help decrease pet obesity which is a serious issue among our canine and feline friends that needs to be addressed.
To learn more about raw feeding then check out some of my previous posts or head to our raw feeding section.

Prey Model Raw (PMR).
-
Honey’s Natural Feeding Handbook for Dogs, Book Review.
-
Benefits of Feeding a BARF or PMR diet.
These are just a few of many so check out the raw feeding category to see all posts.
-
Create raw feeding friendly treats.
I love creating my girl’s own treats and find it so enjoyable and if you haven’t come across our homemade treat recipes yet then below you will find a few of my girls favourites.
-
Homemade Yogurt and Blueberry Frozen Bones, treat recipe.
-
Homemade Dehydrated Chicken Hearts, treat recipe.
-
Homemade Dehydrated Turkey Jerky, treat recipe.
Making your pets treats is so simple and also really fun, personally, I love knowing what is in my girl’s treats which isn’t always the case when buying them from the store.

I hope to make a positive change through epoch.pet!
From day one I thought about how epoch.pet would be able to help raise awareness about controversial topics and hopefully help make a positive difference where needed. One of the things I really want to raise awareness about is breed specific legislation as I feel it is a thing of the past and really needs to be changed to support the majority of pet owners views.
To learn more about breed specific legislation then check out one of my first ever post I wrote, The Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 and Breed Specific Legislation within the UK. Next year I really hope to take part in more charity events and help more great causes or pets in need through epoch.pet.

Make being a pet parent easier.
Being a pet owner is a challenge and it’s certainly not for the faint-hearted, my girls like to keep me on my toes each and every day. A big aim with epoch.pet is to make being a pet parent that little bit easier in whatever way I possibly can.
I do this by reviewing the best pet products on the market such as the Xdog Weight and Fitness Vest, as this great product allows pet owners to get more energy out of their pets and in turn, helps them have a calmer and more relaxed pet.
-
Strengthen the bond between you and your pet.
My number one goal is to help strengthen the bond between every single pet owner and their pet across the globe by creating a brand that pet parents, like, trust and love. In fact, the purpose of epoch.pet is
To create an even stronger bond between you and your pet by optimising the time you spend together through play, fitness and nutrition, all whilst pushing the boundaries of the standard of care.
My thoughts on blogging so far?

So now that you know all about how epoch.pet came to be, it’s time to briefly talk about my thoughts on blogging so far. Personally, I love blogging and think it is a great way to get your content out to people all around the world. I’ve been blown away by how many different countries we have managed to hit over the last eight months.
Our main viewers are from the UK, with the US coming runner-up and Germany third but we have hit so many countries far afield such as Australia, New Zeeland, South Korea, Saudi Arabia and Japan, the list could go on and on as all together we have reached over 42 countries.
What I love about blogging?
The thing I love the most about blogging is how flexible it is, I’m writing this post a few days prior to you reading it to stay on schedule but I love that I am able to write whenever I’m free and am not stuck in a normal 9-5 job each and every day.
Secondly, I love that I can look back on epoch.pet and have a collection of posts all about my gorgeous girls. If it wasn’t for Pooss, Nia and Lily then epoch.pet wouldn’t be here and I love posting about their little lives and no doubt in many years from now when the girls sadly aren’t with us, my posts will bring my partner and I so much joy reading back on them.
I love it when you guys comment or like my posts as I know you’re getting value from them and that’s the whole point of epoch.pet. So if you’ve enjoyed today’s post please hit that like button as it may seem like a small act to you but to me, it makes the world of a difference.
My Blogging Mistakes so Far!
In the last eight months I have had my fair share of blogging mistakes and, In fact, my first day of going live could be classed as a blogging mistake. So I went live with epoch.pet on Friday the 20th of April but I didn’t put my first post out till Saturday the 21st. I got up early on that Saturday and made sure I was happy with my first ever post and then published it on WordPress, Facebook and Twitter.
Once published I had to rush out to see my mum who really wasn’t very well at time, I rode straight over to see her and then decided to check the blog out from my phone only to realise that I had posted my first ever post but all my pages were still set to private so no one could go on them.
#Blogging Fail!!
I almost died but there was nothing I could do about it till I got home as I wasn’t logged into WordPress on my phone, thankfully as soon as I got back I changed the settings to public so my crisis was averted. However, mistakes are inevitable and they are also so important as they help you learn and become better at what you’re doing. I’m not going to bore you and list all my blogging mistakes but let me tell you I have had a fair few.
