Catit water fountain, product review.

Hey, fellow pet lovers!

Today’s post is a super short review of the Catit water fountain, I love this product and it has really helped my girl Pooss.

Let’s jump straight in and learn what’s so great about the Catit Water Fountain?

Catit Water Fountain

This is the Catit water fountain and we got it for our cat, Pooss early this year when we noticed she was struggling to pee and wasn’t drinking much at all. We found out she had water infection but thankfully she is all fine now and is back to normal self!

Dehydration in cats

Dehydration for any animal is a serious issue, in order to survive we all must consume an adequate amount of water and maintain a healthy amount of minerals (Electrolytes) in our bodies. We become dehydrated when there is an imbalance of water and electrolytes.

Our cats need to eat a moist diet as they should be getting the vast majority of their water from their food. This is due to our now domesticated cats descending from desert-dwelling ancestors who would have needed this important adaption to stay hydrated in this seriously hot and dry climate, by getting moisture from small animals and insects that they preyed upon. This resulted in them not needing to drink a great deal of water to stay hydrated but as long as they hunted and could get sufficient moisture from their diet then all was fine.

These days are different and our domesticated house cats face a serious risk of becoming dehydrated!!

This is because a lot of cats are being fed a diet that does not provide them with enough moisture to stay hydrated and this can cause many issues.

Cats who eat a diet of just dry biscuits known as kibble are most in danger of becoming seriously dehydrated. Dry cat food contains only about 10% moisture and potentially less which is not a lot!! By feeding your cat a raw diet you can help ensure they are getting enough moisture from their food and will stay hydrated, happy and healthy.

Dehydration has resulted in a lot of cats having bladder issues and it is really important you make sure your cat has clean fresh drinking water and you see your cat drinking throughout the day.

If your cat is not much of a drinker, then add extra water to their food, getting your Catit water fountain should help with your pets dislike or refusal to drink. Our cat would only drink out of the tab before we got her a Catit fountain but now she drinks frequently, which is a relief.

Signs your cat is dehydrated:

  • Sunken eyes.

  • Lethargy.

  • Loss of appetite.

  • Dry mouth.

  • Depression.

  • Elevated heart rate.

  • Decreased skin elasticity.

  • Panting.

List of symptoms taken from:

(WebMD. (n.d.). Cat Dehydration: Symptoms, Causes, and Treatments. [online] Available at: https://pets.webmd.com/cats/guide/dehydration-cats#1 [Accessed 12 May 2018].)

Now we know why it is so important to ensure your cat has a constant supply of clean fresh drinking water to stay hydrated, we can learn what is so good about the Catit water fountain.

What is so great about the Catit water fountain?

There are many great things about the Catit water fountain such as

  • Clean fresh, filtered water at all times for your furry friend.

My cat, Pooss.

By getting your cat a Catit water fountain you are ensuring they always have clean, fresh drinking water available.

This is super important as cats take longer to hydrate themselves than their canine friends, this is why it is so important to provide your cat with constant fresh drinking water and a moist diet.

If not this can result in an increased risk of:

  • Bladder stones.

  • Water infections.

  • And various other serious health problems if your cat remains dehydrated.

By getting your cat a Catit water fountain you are making sure they always have fresh, filtered drinking water at all times and are helping eliminate any chances of your pet getting a urine tract infection, which if left untreated can lead to serious problems.

  • Small dogs can also use the Catit water fountain.

If you have a small dog like we do then the Catit water fountain is also great for them to use. My girl Lily loves to drink from the Catit water fountain while the Pooss is staring at her and giving her evils!!

However, if you have a Chihuahua or any other small breed then I am sure they would love the Catit water fountain.

  • Filters normal tap water to remove heavy metals and other undesirable substances.

The Catit water fountain has a triple action filter which helps to remove any undesirable substances which are present in normal tap water.

  • The Catit water fountain holds 3 liters (100 fl oz) of water at a time.

What is so great about the Catit water fountain is how much water it can hold, you can leave your water in for a good few days without needing to change it which is a relief as your furry friend will always have a constant supply of clean fresh drinking water.

  • The Catit water fountain is BPA free.

The Catit water fountain is BPA free, which is great as in 2017 the European Chemicals Agency concluded that BPA should be listed as a substance of very high concern due to its properties as an endocrine disruptor.

Information regarding the European Chemicals Agency’s conclusion and so on taken from (En.wikipedia.org. (2017). Bisphenol A. [online] Available at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bisphenol_A#Health_effects [Accessed 12 May 2018].)

  • The Catit water fountain comes apart easily and is so simple to clean.

The Catit water fountain comes apart into three bits, which easily fit back together.

This is great for when you have to clean it, as it is super simple and will only take you a few minutes to clean and seconds to put back together.

  • The Catit water fountain is small, stylish and compact.

We live in a small flat and have many water bowls all over for our furry friends, one of my favourite things about the Catit water fountain is how small and stylish it looks. We have ours in the sitting room and it fits in the corner perfectly.
